The UK’s broken border system has reached a new level of absurdity as a convicted people smuggler, once dubbed the 'godfather' of French migrant camps, has been discovered living and working in Leicestershire.
Twana Jamal, an Iraqi national who served a five-year prison sentence in France for his role in a massive human trafficking operation, is now brazenly residing in the village of Blaby.
Despite a criminal record that saw him earning up to £100,000 a week by exploiting illegal migrants, Jamal has managed to enter the UK, assume a false identity, and file an asylum claim that allows him to remain at large.
While working at a local mini-mart and driving without a license, Jamal boasted to investigators that 'no-one touches us here,' highlighting the utter lack of consequences for those who treat British sovereignty with contempt.
His presence is not an isolated incident; law enforcement sources indicate that at least 15 other convicted people smugglers are currently hiding in the UK under aliases.
Since the UK’s departure from the EU, the failure to maintain robust data-sharing agreements has left a gaping hole in security, making it easier for foreign criminals to hide their pasts from immigration officials.
While the Home Office insists that mandatory security checks are in place, the reality on the ground—where a known human trafficker is sweeping pavements and running shops—proves that the system is failing to protect the public from those who have already proven they have no respect for the law.
