The funeral proceedings for the late Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei have been marked by the notable absence of his son, Mojtaba Khamenei. While other family members and senior regime officials, including President Masoud Pezeshkian and Revolutionary Guards leadership, attended the choreographed events in Tehran, Mojtaba’s whereabouts remain a mystery.
This disappearance follows widespread rumors that he may have been wounded in the same US-Israel air strikes that eliminated his father. The regime’s attempt to project strength through massive, state-managed funeral processions has been complicated by this internal void at the top of the hierarchy.
Meanwhile, the streets of Tehran remain filled with the regime’s standard vitriol, as mourners and state-sanctioned poets continue to chant for the deaths of American and Israeli leaders.
President Donald Trump, addressing the situation, noted the irony of the regime’s public displays of grief, questioning the sincerity of the mourners while highlighting the strategic reality that the entire Iranian leadership was gathered in one place.
Despite the ongoing threats and the regime's long history of sponsoring terror groups like Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis, the Iranian state continues its performative mourning rituals as the body is moved toward its final burial site in Mashhad.
