Britain and France are taking the lead in organizing a multinational military force designed to deploy to Ukraine once the current conflict concludes.
This month, nearly 3,000 personnel from 12 nations, including Germany, Poland, and Turkey, are gathering in Poland for 'Exercise Koalicja' to rehearse the complex logistics of moving, protecting, and supplying troops.
UK Defence Secretary Wes Streeting emphasized that this is not a theoretical exercise but a tangible commitment to Ukraine’s long-term stability.
While Western officials are careful to state that these forces would not engage in offensive combat or operate under NATO command, the mission aims to provide reassurance and assist in rebuilding Ukraine's armed forces.
The exercise includes land, sea, and air components, with Turkey tasked with leading maritime efforts to clear mines in the Black Sea to restore trade. Despite the Kremlin’s aggressive rhetoric labeling foreign troops as 'legitimate targets,' Western allies are moving forward with these preparations.
The United States is participating in discussions but is not contributing troops to this specific mission.
As the conflict continues with no immediate end in sight, European leaders are attempting to translate political promises into a credible military posture, though the final structure and scope of any eventual deployment remain subject to future political decisions and the reality of the battlefield.
