Houston Mayor John Whitmire has officially signaled his surrender to the radical left by ordering the Houston Police Department to stop cooperating with federal immigration authorities. In a move that undermines the rule of law and threatens public safety, Whitmire is effectively turning Houston into a sanctuary city.

Under the new directive, local officers are now prohibited from notifying Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) about individuals with administrative warrants unless they are arrested for a separate jailable offense.

This policy shift deliberately creates a shield for those who have already violated federal law, forcing local police to ignore the presence of individuals who are already on the radar of federal authorities.

Whitmire, attempting to frame this abandonment of duty as a 'healing process,' is clearly more interested in placating political activists than in maintaining a secure border or supporting the federal agents tasked with upholding our nation’s sovereignty.

The Department of Homeland Security correctly slammed the move, noting that such 'sanctuary' policies hinder the critical partnerships necessary to remove criminal illegal aliens from our communities.

While the mayor hides behind the excuse of 'de-escalation' and demands for more federal training, the reality is that his administration is choosing to obstruct the basic functions of law enforcement.

By prioritizing the comfort of those who have no legal right to be here over the safety of the taxpaying citizens of Houston, Whitmire has made it clear where his loyalties lie.
