A devastating road accident in Uganda’s Kapchorwa area has claimed the lives of 20 schoolchildren and the director of King David Junior School, Tadeo Ssekade. The group was returning from a study tour at Sipi Falls when their bus suffered a mechanical failure on Chekwatit Hill.

According to local police, the driver lost control of the vehicle, which veered off the road, struck a large stone, and overturned. Dozens of others, including school staff, were injured in the wreckage.

This stretch of road is notorious for serious accidents, highlighting the ongoing crisis of poorly maintained vehicles and dangerous infrastructure in the region.

While local authorities continue to investigate, the tragedy serves as a grim reminder of the urgent need for stricter enforcement of road safety standards to protect the lives of those traveling on Uganda's roads.
