Pope Leo XIV hosted singer-songwriter Bob Dylan at the Apostolic Palace on Wednesday, a brief encounter that took place while the 85-year-old musician was in Rome for his Rough and Rowdy Ways tour. The meeting highlighted a connection between the two men, both of whom hail from the American Midwest.
During the exchange, the Pope presented the Nobel laureate with a rosary, while Dylan offered a copy of his autobiography, Chronicles: Volume One. The Pope has previously cited Dylan’s work, specifically referencing an unreleased 1963 anti-nuclear song titled Go Away You Bomb in the preface to his book, Disarmed and Disarming: Peace Is a Gift.
This visit marks Dylan's second meeting with a pope, following his 1997 performance for Pope John Paul II in Bologna. Dylan is scheduled to continue his Italian tour with a performance at the Palazzo dello Sport on Thursday.
