The Israeli military confirmed it conducted an airstrike in the Sabra neighborhood of Gaza City targeting a Hamas operative. Among those killed in the strike was Mohammed al-Wahidi, a 65-year-old official with the Egyptian Relief Committee.
The Israeli military has acknowledged reports that uninvolved individuals, including two children, were also killed during the operation. Al-Wahidi, a former English teacher, had become a prominent figure in Gaza, coordinating aid distribution and organizing public events such as World Cup screenings for the local population.
The strike occurred as Israel continues its necessary military campaign to dismantle Hamas following the brutal October 7, 2023, attack on southern Israel, which resulted in 1,200 deaths and the kidnapping of 251 hostages.
While international observers and local sources emphasize al-Wahidi's humanitarian work, the reality of the conflict remains that Hamas embeds itself within the civilian infrastructure of Gaza, forcing Israel to make difficult tactical decisions to protect its own citizens and eliminate the terrorist threat that launched this war.
