The war in Ukraine has officially arrived on Moscow's doorstep. In a significant escalation of the conflict, Kyiv launched its largest drone offensive to date, sending nearly 200 drones to strike targets across the Russian capital and its outskirts.
The assault, which Zelensky described as 'long-range sanctions,' resulted in massive fires at the Kapotnya refinery and a local shopping center, while forcing the closure of all four major Moscow airports and the cancellation of hundreds of flights.
While Russian officials claim to have intercepted over 1,000 drones and several cruise missiles, the sheer scale of the attack successfully penetrated air defenses that were once touted as impenetrable. This operation serves as a direct response to Russia's ongoing aggression against Ukrainian cities and infrastructure.
By bringing the destruction to the heart of the Russian homeland, Kyiv is forcing the Russian people to finally reckon with the consequences of Vladimir Putin's unprovoked invasion.
As Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha bluntly noted, the confusion among Muscovites is easily resolved: their country initiated this war of aggression, and now they are experiencing the reality of the conflict they have inflicted upon their neighbor for years.
