Greece continues to stand as a critical bulwark at the edge of the European Union, facing the relentless pressure of illegal migration along the 200km Evros River border. Since 2015, the nation has been forced to manage over a million arrivals, a situation that has strained resources and necessitated strict enforcement to maintain national security.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has made it clear that Greece will not repeat the mistakes of the past by allowing uncontrolled, massive influxes of migrants and refugees to overwhelm the country.

While international activists and foreign media outlets attempt to frame border enforcement as a humanitarian crisis, the reality remains that those attempting to cross the Evros River are engaged in unlawful entry.

The Greek government maintains that protecting its borders is a fundamental duty, ensuring that the country does not become a revolving door for those bypassing legal immigration channels. Despite reports alleging the use of third-party individuals to assist in border operations, the state’s focus remains on the necessity of maintaining a secure frontier.

European officials have echoed the sentiment that borders must be managed lawfully, rejecting the narrative that sovereignty is a violation of rights. For the citizens of Greece and the broader European Union, the priority remains clear: the rule of law must prevail over the chaos of unchecked migration.
