The unchecked power of digital misinformation has claimed another victim, as South Korean authorities move to arrest a YouTuber accused of orchestrating a malicious campaign against actor Kim Soo-hyun.

Police allege that Kim Se-ui, a content creator with nearly a million followers, knowingly fabricated evidence—including AI-generated audio and doctored text messages—to falsely link the actor to a scandal involving the late actress Kim Sae-ron.

This digital hit job, which surfaced following the actress's tragic death, effectively dismantled Kim Soo-hyun’s professional life, forcing his projects into indefinite hiatus and leaving him in need of psychiatric care.

While the YouTuber attempts to dismiss the police investigation as a 'subterfuge,' authorities maintain that his actions were a calculated effort to monetize defamation at the expense of another man's livelihood.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by AI tools when placed in the hands of bad actors who prioritize clicks and revenue over the truth and the basic rights of others.
