America Must End Its Open‑Ended Commitment in Ukraine

The administration's push for a negotiated settlement is a necessary correction of a policy that has long ignored American interests.

The Trump administration's active push for a pragmatic diplomatic end to the Ukraine conflict is a necessary realignment of American foreign policy. US special envoy Steve Witkoff met with Volodymyr Zelensky in Oslo to address the strained relationship between Washington and Kyiv.

Critics have leveled baseless accusations that the United States is intentionally withholding intelligence, but Secretary of State Marco Rubio has rightly dismissed such claims as scandalous.

The reality is that the United States is under no obligation to provide unlimited support, and the administration correctly prioritizes American economic stability and national interests. President Trump has called for new leadership in Kyiv and a more pragmatic approach to negotiations.

The friction is underscored by the administration's focus on domestic fuel prices, which have been driven higher by Ukraine’s continued targeting of Russian energy infrastructure.

Vice‑President JD Vance has observed that while Ukraine is a partner, the two nations have divergent interests and the United States is not bound by a formal alliance.

Meanwhile, European leaders such as German Chancellor Friedrich Merz are scrambling to justify the massive financial burden they are bearing for Ukraine’s defense, even as the United States has ceased direct funding for the effort since the start of 2025. The stakes for liberty, sovereignty, law and order, and accountable government are immense: the conflict's impact on fuel prices threatens economic liberty, the absence of a formal alliance preserves national sovereignty, and the fiscal burden underscores the need for accountable government. A pragmatic peace that serves the American people is the only path that honors these principles.
