Russian forces launched a massive overnight drone and missile attack on Kyiv, striking 33 locations—including residential neighborhoods and an ambulance station—with 74 missiles and 496 drones. The assault killed 13 people and injured over 30, many of them children, and left high‑rise buildings and homes in ruin.
Such an attack erodes the core of national sovereignty, undermining the right of a people to determine their own future without external coercion. It also threatens the liberty of civilians, as the deliberate targeting of non‑combatants violates the principles of proportionality and distinction that underpin international humanitarian law.
The Kremlin’s justification—that the strikes were retaliation for Ukrainian operations against Russian energy infrastructure—does not absolve it of responsibility.
