Stop Funding Allies Who Refuse to Cooperate

The United States should end costly military exercises with allies that decline to support American objectives, resist foreign legal harassment, and enforce its borders.

The United States must stop subsidizing allies who refuse to cooperate, stand up to foreign legal harassment, and enforce its borders. President Trump's decision to scale back joint military exercises with South Korea demonstrates that the current approach is unsustainable. The President cited the high cost of the drills, which are largely funded by American taxpayers, and noted that South Korea declined to join the United States in the denuclearization of Iran.

The reduction of the Ulchi Freedom Shield exercises comes amid ongoing provocations from Pyongyang, including ballistic missile tests that violate United Nations mandates and the deployment of North Korean troops to support Russia's war in Ukraine. By prioritizing American interests and fiscal responsibility, the administration is correct to refuse to subsidize the security of allies who are unwilling to stand with America on critical global security challenges.

Equally important is the need to resist foreign legal harassment. The British broadcaster's attempt to subpoena Donald Trump Jr., Ivanka Trump, and Jared Kushner in a $10 billion defamation lawsuit is an abuse of process that threatens American sovereignty. The network previously issued an apology for deceptively editing a speech, yet it now seeks to drag the former president's family into a battle over its own editorial malpractice.

Securing the nation's borders is another imperative. Moroccan authorities intercepted over 100 individuals attempting to illegally enter the Spanish exclave of Ceuta, deploying riot police and drones to repel the incursion. Spain has bolstered its own defenses by deploying over 1,500 security officers and installing additional physical barriers, while other European nations have moved to tighten their own border controls.

Supporting allies that fight terror is also crucial. The Israel Defense Forces' elimination of Hezbollah commander Ali Samir al-Haj Hassan after an attack that wounded three Israeli soldiers demonstrates the necessity of decisive action against hostile forces. The IDF confirmed that Hassan was a lawful target who deliberately embedded his command post within a residential area, using civilians as human shields.

These actions together paint a picture of a nation that prioritizes its own interests, refuses to be bullied, and stands with those who stand with it. The path forward requires a commitment to sovereignty, limited government, and law and order.
