Britain’s borders are slipping under a tide of unlawful crossings.

French patrol boats had declined to assist overnight, insisting the vessel continue its illegal journey toward the United Kingdom. Only when the vessel’s integrity failed did a multi‑agency rescue involving the RNLI and UK Border Force intervene, saving lives but exposing the chaos that plagues the Channel.
Prime Minister Andy Burnham has pledged a “relentless” approach to curb these arrivals, yet the numbers continue to climb. Since he took office just two weeks ago, over 2,000 migrants have crossed the Channel, a figure that underscores the failure of current policies. Nigel Farage, leader of Reform UK, has called for deploying the navy to halt crossings entirely, a move that reflects the urgency felt by many who see the border as a breach of sovereignty.
Despite hundreds of millions of pounds in taxpayer funding funneled into deals with France for drones, helicopters, and riot‑trained police, the flow of illegal migrants remains a persistent threat. These investments have not stopped the tide, suggesting that the problem lies not in technology but in the lack of decisive, sovereign enforcement.
