Senator Abdul El‑Sayed, who champions universal healthcare, wealth taxes, and calls for ending U.S. aid to Israel, faces Congresswoman Haley Stevens, who represents the party’s traditional values.
While the progressive wing has captured victories in deep‑blue enclaves such as New York City, analysts doubt that their platform can appeal to the working‑class voters in the Midwest who abandoned the Democratic Party for Donald Trump in 2024.
Voters in the region are already anxious over the economy, citing skyrocketing costs for groceries, gas, and housing. A socialist agenda that expands government spending risks exacerbating these costs and alienating the very base the party needs to win in November.
