Defending Sovereignty: Israel’s Fight Secures Global Liberty

The October 7 anniversary shows that a nation’s right to self-defense is the foundation of lawful order and accountable governance worldwide.

The third anniversary of the October 7 Hamas attack serves as a stark reminder that a nation’s right to defend its people is inseparable from the preservation of liberty. Israel paused this week to remember the 1,200 victims of the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led terror attack, with families and survivors gathering at sites like the Nova music festival where terrorists committed horrific acts of murder, torture, and sexual violence. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has remained resolute, declaring that Israel will continue to settle the score with the murderers who orchestrated the assault, while the IDF has neutralized thousands of the terrorists who infiltrated the border and remains engaged in dismantling Hamas’s infrastructure.

This steadfast defense of sovereignty is not merely a regional concern; it affirms the principle that governments must protect their citizens from those who seek total destruction. Despite political noise from domestic protesters and international pressure, the Israeli government maintains that ensuring such an atrocity never happens again is paramount. Hamas, a designated terrorist organization, continues to frame its murderous rampage as a legitimate struggle, but the reality is clear: the group invited this war through its own barbaric actions, and Israel’s firm stance upholds the rule of law and the right of nations to act in self-defense.

Liberty is also threatened when economic power concentrates in ways that undermine free markets and independent discourse.

The $110 billion merger between Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros Discovery has created a massive entertainment conglomerate burdened by $80 billion in debt, a development that analysts warn will lead to higher streaming fees as the firm bundles platforms like HBO Max and Paramount+.

The deal threatens the livelihoods of thousands of industry workers, with reports estimating that 4,500 jobs could be eliminated and over $1 billion in wages lost as the company seeks to cut costs.

Moreover, placing CNN and CBS under one corporate roof raises serious questions about the effectiveness of a newly created editorial independence board, since oversight without real authority is meaningless and the consolidation of major news outlets under a single entity endangers media independence.

Bureaucratic rigidity similarly erodes law and order and accountable government, as seen in the aftermath of the devastating floods that tore through the China-Nepal border last month.

Thousands of families remain missing and presumed dead, yet Nepali officials refuse to issue death certificates because under current law a missing person is not legally presumed dead for 12 years—a provision designed for long-term disappearances, not immediate disaster relief.

Local officials, including Bidur Mayor Rajan Shrestha, claim their hands are tied by these legal boundaries, leaving families like that of Madan Lal Lawat, who lost five relatives, to navigate an administrative nightmare while trying to rebuild their lives.

The government’s failure to adapt its legal framework has left thousands of displaced citizens without the financial support they are entitled to, even as over 7,500 private buildings lie destroyed and the national reconstruction bill is projected to reach £3.6 billion.

At home, Republican candidates are linking core conservative issues to the pocketbook concerns that voters identify as their top priority, illustrating a commitment to accountable government.

As the midterm elections approach, many voters focus on the immediate pain of inflation, which currently sits at 3.4%, with the price of essentials like gasoline and beef hitting record highs.

Candidates from Florida to Texas are launching 'affordability agendas' to address the financial strain felt by constituents; in Florida, gubernatorial candidate Byron Donalds is criss-crossing the state to discuss rising costs of housing, insurance, and taxes, while similar efforts in Texas and Iowa emphasize the need for relief from Washington's failures.

This strategy reflects a broader GOP effort to tie crime, taxes, and immigration to economic realities, contrasting their record of growth with what they argue would be the deepening of national challenges under Democratic policies.

Upholding the right of nations to defend themselves, resisting economic consolidation that stifles competition and speech, reforming laws that impede timely relief, and holding government accountable to the economic pressures faced by citizens are all essential components of a free society. When these principles are honored, liberty, sovereignty, law and order, and accountable government are strengthened together.
