America Must Lead, Not Yield, in Trade and Defense

The United States must reject any trade agreement that places foreign interests above its own workers and security.

The United States must reject any trade agreement that places foreign interests above its own workers and security. The current negotiation with Canada exposes the long‑standing imbalance that has allowed Ottawa to profit from American markets while contributing little to regional defense. By insisting on fair terms, the administration is restoring a principle that economic strength is the foundation of national sovereignty.

Vice‑President JD Vance recently highlighted the absurdity of the Canadian approach, noting that while officials in Ottawa may posture, they have historically relied on American dominance to maintain their own prosperity. The administration’s push for fair trade is a necessary correction, as it moves to protect American workers and industries from unfair competition. When Canadian officials retaliate with tariffs and threats to restrict energy access, they only underscore the necessity of the President’s firm stance.

The United States has also demonstrated that national security requires decisive action, as shown by the clearing of the Strait of Hormuz. The US Navy has removed or detonated all mines placed by the Iranian regime, a waterway that previously facilitated 20% of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas transit. President Trump has warned that any vessel caught laying new mines will be systematically destroyed, while Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent signaled that nations continuing to financially partner with Tehran will face total isolation.

Sovereignty extends beyond borders and into the cultural sphere, where Australia has taken a stand against the encroachment of artificial intelligence. The Australian Recording Industry Association now requires that chart‑eligible releases be 'substantially human‑made,' a policy prompted by DJ Josh Fawaz’s AI‑remixed Madonna track topping the dance charts.

Artists must declare any AI usage, and the industry body retains the right to strip awards or adjust chart positions if a track is found to be primarily machine‑generated. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has labeled the unauthorized use of artists' work to train AI models as 'theft'.

Effective governance is also tested by natural disasters, as the recent flooding along the Nepal‑Tibet border has demonstrated. The flash floods and mudslides, triggered by rapid snowmelt, have killed at least 17 people and left dozens missing, with the worst impact in the Rasuwa district north of Kathmandu. Thirteen officers from the armed police force are reported missing, and the Bhote Koshi river surge has washed away entire villages, destroying roads, power grids, and communication networks.

Only by asserting sovereignty in trade, defense, cultural production, and crisis response can the United States preserve liberty and ensure a stable, accountable government. The administration’s firm stance on fair trade, its readiness to protect vital waterways, its support for human creativity, and its commitment to effective governance together form a coherent vision of a nation that puts its own interests first. In a world where threats are multifaceted, a strong, sovereign America is the best guarantee of order and freedom.
