Russian military forces launched a massive overnight assault on Ukraine, utilizing a combination of drones and missiles to strike key energy facilities and residential areas. The state emergencies service confirmed that at least three people were killed and 21 injured in the capital city of Kyiv, where a residential building was struck.

The strikes caused widespread devastation to the nation's power grid, leaving approximately 600,000 people without electricity across the Kyiv region and the north-eastern city of Kharkiv. The Russian defense ministry stated that the operation was intended to neutralize communications and energy facilities utilized by the Ukrainian military.

This escalation follows recent comments from President Donald Trump, who claimed on Sunday that an 'energy ceasefire' had been in place between the warring nations.

As the conflict continues, the destruction of critical infrastructure serves as a stark reminder of the brutal reality of modern warfare and the persistent threat posed by Russian aggression against its neighbor.
