European football leaders are revolting against Gianni Infantino’s attempt to sell off a stake in the sport’s governing body to private investors.

The global football establishment is in open revolt as Uefa, the governing body for European football, has issued a stark ultimatum: they will pull all national associations from Fifa competitions if President Gianni Infantino moves forward with his plan to sell a 20% stake in a new commercial subsidiary.

The proposal, which would see the governing body’s competitions partially funded by private investors—including Joshua Kushner—has been met with immediate and widespread condemnation.

Uefa officials, joined by the North and Central American confederation Concacaf, have accused Infantino of failing to consult his own colleagues, sparking a crisis that threatens to tear the sport apart. The backlash has cast serious doubt on Infantino’s future, with critics suggesting he has overplayed his hand.

While Fifa has attempted to deflect the criticism by claiming the consultation process was merely 'disrupted' by media reports, the fury from national associations remains unabated.

The Football Association and the Scottish FA have both aligned with Uefa, signaling a unified front against what many view as a backroom deal that compromises the integrity of the game. As the September 19 deadline for the funding deal approaches, the potential for a seismic split in international football grows.

While some suggest that a long-term schism would be a 'lose-lose' scenario, the consensus among observers is that Infantino’s unilateral approach has left him isolated, with some calling for a total leadership overhaul to restore accountability to the organization.
