The socialist experiment in Spain is hitting a wall. Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has officially called for early elections to be held on November 29 after his minority government suffered a humiliating defeat in the Spanish Congress.
The collapse of his legislative agenda, specifically his inability to push through controversial housing reforms, has left his administration paralyzed and unable to govern effectively. Sanchez, clearly feeling the heat from a public tired of his policies, is now resorting to desperate campaign rhetoric.
In his announcement, he attempted to deflect from his own failures by fear-mongering about an 'extreme-right wave,' while clinging to the tired, progressive buzzwords of 'peace, feminism and prosperity.' The reality is that the Spanish people are moving in a different direction.
Polls currently show Sanchez’s Socialist party trailing the conservative People's Party. With the prospect of the People's Party potentially forming a coalition with the conservative Vox party, the era of socialist overreach in Spain may finally be coming to an end.
The voters are clearly signaling that they have had enough of the current administration's inability to manage the country's housing crisis and are looking for a return to common-sense governance.
