Millions of Brazilian voters headed to the polls this past Sunday to determine the direction of their nation in a pivotal presidential election.

The race features a stark contrast in ideologies: incumbent Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, 80, is seeking a fourth non-consecutive term, while his challenger, Flávio Bolsonaro, 45, represents a new generation of conservative leadership.

Flávio Bolsonaro, the son of former President Jair Bolsonaro who served from 2019 to 2022, is making his first bid for the presidency. With no candidate securing an outright victory in the initial round, the election is now set for a critical run-off on October 25.

The outcome will determine whether Brazil continues under the current administration or shifts toward the conservative platform championed by the Bolsonaro family.
