The war in Ukraine has reached the heart of the Russian capital once again, as Ukrainian drones struck an upscale residential high-rise in Moscow early Monday morning. This bold strike, which caused significant damage to the building, marks the third consecutive night of drone attacks on the city.
While the Kremlin attempts to project strength ahead of its annual Victory Day parade, the reality is one of vulnerability; the Russian government has already been forced to scale back the event, removing armored vehicles and missile systems for the first time since 2008 due to what they call a 'terrorist threat.' The Russian defense ministry reported that over 100 drones were intercepted across various regions, including a massive wave targeting St.
Petersburg. In a desperate attempt to maintain control, Moscow declared a unilateral ceasefire for the upcoming holiday, while simultaneously threatening a massive retaliatory strike on Kyiv should their celebrations be disrupted.
President Volodymyr Zelensky, however, remains unimpressed, dismissing the ceasefire proposal as unserious and vowing to maintain pressure on the invaders.
