In a significant escalation of the ongoing conflict, Ukrainian forces successfully struck a major military plant deep inside Russian territory. President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that FP-5 Flamingo cruise missiles hit the VNIIR-Progress plant in Cheboksary, a facility essential to the production of components for Russia's drone and missile programs.

Located over 560 miles from the front line, the strike demonstrates a newfound reach for Kyiv’s military capabilities. While local Russian officials confirmed the attack and reported three injuries, they remained characteristically tight-lipped regarding the extent of the damage to the facility.

This strike is part of a broader campaign by Ukraine to dismantle the energy and industrial infrastructure that fuels Vladimir Putin’s illegal invasion. Beyond the Cheboksary hit, Ukraine targeted a Russian oil refinery in Samara, a 'shadow fleet' oil tanker in the Black Sea, and the occupied port of Mariupol.

As Moscow continues to reject any meaningful peace negotiations and falsely claims progress on a largely static front, Ukraine is clearly shifting the cost of the war back onto the aggressor. By utilizing the FP-5 Flamingo, which boasts a 3,000km range, Kyiv is proving that no part of the Russian war effort is safe from retaliation.
