The Kremlin has escalated its war on Ukraine with a brutal, large-scale aerial bombardment, launching more than 670 drones and 56 missiles in a single overnight barrage. The strikes, which targeted over 180 sites across the country, resulted in the deaths of at least 16 people in Kyiv, including two children.
Rescuers continue to sift through the rubble of a nine-storey apartment block in the Darnytskyi district, with at least 20 people still reported missing. President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that the strikes hit more than 50 residential buildings, a school, and critical infrastructure, leaving the city’s water supply disrupted.
While Ukrainian forces successfully intercepted a significant portion of the incoming drones, the nation’s leadership remains under immense pressure as they struggle to defend against Russian ballistic missiles.
Zelensky has reiterated the urgent need for more US-made Patriot missile systems, noting that the current air defense capabilities are insufficient to counter the sheer volume of Moscow's latest offensive.
This surge in violence follows the expiration of a short-lived, US-brokered ceasefire, proving that Russia has no intention of de-escalating despite previous diplomatic posturing. As the death toll rises, Ukrainian officials are calling on global leaders to leverage their influence to hold Moscow accountable for this campaign of destruction.
