In a major victory against global jihadism, U.S. and Nigerian forces have successfully neutralized Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, a senior Islamic State leader and the group's 'Head of General Directorate of States.' President Donald Trump confirmed the successful operation, labeling al-Minuki the 'second in command of ISIS globally' and the 'most active terrorist in the world.' The strike, which took place at a fortified compound in Metele, Borno state, resulted in the death of al-Minuki and several of his lieutenants with zero U.S. or Nigerian casualties.
Al-Minuki, who was designated a Specially Designated Global Terrorist by Washington in 2023, was a former Boko Haram commander who rose through the ranks to oversee IS-linked terror operations across the Sahel and West Africa. His removal marks a significant disruption to the terror group's command structure and funding channels.
Nigerian President Bola Tinubu praised the operation as a 'daring joint operation' that dealt a heavy blow to the insurgency. This successful mission underscores the effectiveness of increased military cooperation between the United States and Nigeria as they work to dismantle the extremist networks that have plagued the region for over a decade.
President Trump emphasized that the terrorist will no longer be able to threaten the people of Africa or plot attacks against Americans, signaling a clear commitment to hunting down those who seek to impose a radical caliphate through violence.
