Former President Donald Trump has paid more than $5.6 million to writer E. Jean Carroll, fulfilling a civil judgment awarded by a New York jury in 2023. The payment, which includes the original $5 million in damages plus accrued interest, was released after the Supreme Court declined to hear Trump’s appeal of the case.

Carroll’s legal team confirmed the receipt of funds on Tuesday. The case stems from allegations regarding an encounter in a Manhattan department store in the 1990s and subsequent comments made by Trump on Truth Social in 2022.

While a jury found Trump liable for sexual abuse and defamation, the former president has consistently denied the allegations, labeling the entire legal process a 'hoax' and a 'Witch Hunt' funded by his political opponents.

Trump’s legal team has repeatedly argued that Judge Lewis Kaplan allowed prejudicial evidence during the trial, a claim that was rejected by a federal appeals court.

Despite the conclusion of this specific matter, Trump remains engaged in legal battles regarding a separate 2024 jury verdict that awarded Carroll nearly $84 million in a different defamation case, an outcome he is currently challenging.
