The political newcomer promises a hardline military crackdown on cartels and a total rejection of the failed 'total peace' policies that left the nation in chaos.

Colombia has turned the page on the failed policies of the left, electing political outsider Abelardo de la Espriella in a victory that promises to restore security and national sovereignty.

With over 99% of the vote counted, de la Espriella, who ran on a platform of uncompromising strength against drug cartels and illegal armed groups, narrowly defeated Iván Cepeda, a close ally of the outgoing socialist administration.

The result is a clear rebuke of President Gustavo Petro’s disastrous 'total peace' strategy, which critics say allowed criminal organizations to expand their reach under the guise of negotiations.

De la Espriella, endorsed by Donald Trump, has pledged to scrap these soft-on-crime talks, implement a rigorous military crackdown, and construct mega-prisons to house the criminals who have terrorized the country.

While the left-wing opposition continues to cast doubt on the results without providing evidence, the message from the Colombian people is clear: they are tired of the violence, the bureaucracy, and the lawlessness that has plagued their nation.

As he prepares to take office, de la Espriella has vowed to defend the constitution and work toward a prosperous, secure Colombia, marking a significant shift in the region toward conservative leadership and the restoration of the rule of law.
