Tigrayan Insurgents Launch New Offensive, Threatening Ethiopian Stability

The TPLF has abandoned the peace process, seizing federal airports and attacking neighboring regions in a desperate bid to topple the national government.

The fragile peace in Ethiopia has shattered as the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) launched a coordinated offensive against the federal government. In a blatant violation of the 2022 Pretoria Agreement, Tigrayan forces seized federally administered airports and initiated attacks in the Afar and Amhara regions.

The TPLF, which has recently aligned itself with six other armed groups, is making a calculated move to destabilize the nation and overthrow the administration in Addis Ababa. Ethiopian officials have condemned the aggression, with government advisors highlighting the TPLF's refusal to pursue peaceful resolution despite international efforts.

The U.S. ambassador to Ethiopia has rightly labeled the TPLF's decision to launch this large-scale conflict as an 'unwinnable fight.' While the TPLF attempts to frame its actions as defensive, their history of forced recruitment and the recent seizure of state property reveal a clear intent to return to the violence that has plagued the region for years.

As the federal government works to restore order and protect national sovereignty, the TPLF continues to prioritize insurrection over the prosperity and safety of the Ethiopian people.
