Bill Gates walks through security as he arrives to testify at a closed-door interview with the House Oversight Committee on Capitol Hill

Bill Gates, the billionaire philanthropist and Microsoft co-founder, has arrived at the Capitol to face the House Oversight Committee regarding his documented association with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

While Gates continues to insist that his interactions with Epstein were purely transactional and focused on potential philanthropic funding, lawmakers are rightfully skeptical of his timeline and his decision to maintain contact with a man already known to be a predator.

Despite Epstein’s 2008 conviction for soliciting a minor, Gates continued to engage with him for years, a lapse in judgment that he now dismisses as 'foolish.' The congressional inquiry comes on the heels of the Department of Justice releasing millions of pages of documents related to the Epstein investigation, which feature Gates’s name thousands of times.

Beyond the optics of private jet travel and social meetings, the committee is probing whether Epstein leveraged his proximity to powerful figures like Gates to exert influence or engage in blackmail.

While Gates vehemently denies the more salacious allegations found in Epstein’s draft emails—including claims regarding illicit trysts and health issues—the committee is determined to uncover the full extent of this relationship.

As the investigation continues, the central question remains: why did one of the world’s most powerful men remain so incurious about the background of a known criminal?
