The Tooro Kingdom in western Uganda has a new monarch, as journalist Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma has officially been crowned Omukama Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I. The coronation ceremony, which saw attendance from Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, marks a significant shift in the region's leadership following the death of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.

However, the transition of power is far from settled. The crowning comes in the wake of a highly disputed succession process, with various factions raising serious questions about the rightful heir to the throne. As the kingdom navigates this transition, the legitimacy of the new king remains a point of contention among those involved in the power struggle.
