Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is actively seeking to turn the global focus on the Middle East to his nation's advantage, positioning Ukraine as a key player in the drone warfare market. By visiting Gulf states like Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar, Zelensky has secured agreements to share critical drone expertise and technology.

These nations, having faced their own threats from Iranian missiles and drones, are now looking to Kyiv to bolster their defenses. This strategic pivot comes as Ukraine continues to endure a grueling war with Russia, with Kyiv utilizing its own domestically manufactured long-range drones to strike Russian energy infrastructure.

These strikes have successfully dented Moscow's revenue, proving that Ukraine’s tactical ingenuity remains a potent weapon. Meanwhile, the diplomatic front remains complex.

While the Trump administration has signaled a desire for a quick resolution to the conflict, official engagement with Kyiv has been limited, with peace envoys prioritizing Middle Eastern affairs.

As European allies step up with significant financial and military support, including a recently unlocked €90bn EU-backed loan, Ukraine is working to secure its position.

Despite the challenges of conscription and battlefield fatigue, Zelensky is pushing to strengthen his country's standing, recognizing that relying on external powers for security guarantees remains a difficult and uncertain path.
