Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has rightfully denied a clemency request for death row inmate Christa Pike, clearing the way for her scheduled execution by lethal injection. Pike, now 50, was convicted for her role in the horrific 1995 murder of 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer.
The victim was beaten, tortured, and murdered by Pike and her then-boyfriend at a job training camp, with investigators discovering a pentagram carved into the victim's chest. Pike even bragged about the gruesome killing, showing others a piece of the victim's skull.
Despite desperate attempts by her legal team to use her age at the time of the crime and childhood history to avoid the consequences of her actions, Governor Lee stood firm, stating he has thoroughly reviewed the case and will uphold the sentence of the State of Tennessee.
The victim's mother has long advocated for the execution to proceed, seeking finality for her daughter. While defense attorneys claim that an 18-year-old is not an adult, the law remains clear: those who commit heinous acts of violence must face the full weight of justice.
Pike has spent years exhausting the appeals process, and the state is now moving to ensure that the sentence handed down by a jury of her peers is finally carried out.
