The Supreme Court has once again refused to intervene in the civil case brought by writer E. Jean Carroll against former President Donald Trump, effectively ending his attempt to challenge the jury's verdict. The court provided no explanation for its decision, which follows a similar rejection issued in June.
Trump, who has consistently denied the allegations, previously paid over $5 million in damages following the civil trial. His legal team had argued that the trial judge improperly allowed prejudicial evidence, specifically the 2005 Access Hollywood footage, to influence the jury's perception.
While Carroll’s legal team claims the verdict is now final, the former president has maintained that the litigation is a clear example of the weaponization of the justice system against him. Trump has previously described the case as an attack not just on himself, but on the presidency itself.
The Supreme Court has yet to rule on a separate, pending appeal regarding a different $83.3 million defamation verdict involving the same parties, where Trump’s counsel is arguing that his statements were protected by presidential immunity.
