Sudanese Army Strikes Paramilitary Stronghold in Darfur

Drone attack targets Rapid Support Forces-controlled village, resulting in casualties during court session.

The Sudanese army launched a drone strike on the village of Ghara al-Zawiya in North Darfur, an area currently held by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). According to the Emergency Lawyers Group, the strike hit a gathering described as a traditional court session, resulting in 35 deaths and dozens of injuries.

Reports indicate that the casualties included four tribal leaders and two RSF commanders. Witnesses stated that two drones were involved in the operation, which utilized more than four missiles. The Sudanese army has yet to issue a formal comment regarding the operation.

This incident is the latest development in a brutal three-year civil war that has displaced millions and claimed tens of thousands of lives. The RSF continues to face international scrutiny, including allegations of war crimes and genocide related to their ongoing siege of el-Fasher.

While the Emergency Lawyers Group has called for an investigation into the strike, the reality remains that the RSF’s control of the region has turned civilian areas into active theaters of conflict, further complicating the security landscape in Darfur.
