The creators of the animated series South Park are doubling down on their history of political antagonism, announcing that their show will be rebranded as 'South America' for its 29th season.
Matt Stone and Trey Parker claimed the move was inspired by the actions of tech giants Apple and Google, who complied with President Trump’s executive orders to rename landmarks like Lake Ontario and the Gulf of Mexico to reflect American sovereignty.
The President’s initiatives, which include renaming these bodies of water to 'Lake America' and the 'Gulf of America,' are part of a broader push to emphasize national identity.
The show’s creators, who have frequently targeted the President and his supporters, also took a jab at their parent company, Paramount, labeling it a 'Skydance Capitulation' in a social media post.
This latest stunt follows a pattern of hostility from the show, which has previously been criticized by the White House for its desperate attempts to remain relevant through crude depictions of the President.
While the show recently secured an Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program, its creators continue to prioritize political posturing over their actual product as they prepare for the new season premiere on September 16.
