A tragic aviation accident in the Bahamas has claimed the lives of all ten people on board, including nine passengers and the pilot. The Cessna 402, operated by Flamingo Air, was traveling from Lynden Pindling International Airport to San Andros Airport when it encountered mechanical difficulties and crashed into brush before reaching the runway.
Prime Minister Philip Davis initially reported a survivor, but later confirmed that all individuals on the flight had succumbed to their injuries. The crash occurred on the nation's 53rd independence anniversary, casting a shadow over the holiday.
In response to the disaster and a separate incident on Friday involving a fire on another Flamingo Air aircraft, the Ministry of Aviation has temporarily suspended the airline's air operator certificate.
Aviation Minister JoBeth Coleby-Davis stated that the grounding is a precautionary safety measure while authorities conduct a thorough review of the airline's operations. Flamingo Air has pledged to cooperate with investigators as the government works to determine the cause of these alarming safety lapses.
