A peaceful funeral service in the Jordanian village of Hmoud turned into a scene of carnage on Friday when unidentified gunmen stormed a local church and opened fire on mourners. The attack, which left six people dead and 28 others wounded, has been condemned by Jordanian officials as a heinous act of terror.
Witnesses described a terrifying scene as attackers armed with rifles and pistols fired into the crowd for several minutes. Verified CCTV footage shows three armed individuals approaching the church grounds before initiating the assault.
While no group has yet claimed responsibility for the massacre, the Jordanian government is treating the incident as a direct strike against the nation's security. King Abdullah II has vowed that the state will confront the perpetrators with the harshest possible penalties, declaring that such acts of treachery will not succeed in dividing the country.
As the investigation continues and the Security Council convenes to address the security failure, the attack serves as a grim reminder of the persistent threat posed by extremists who target religious communities and violate the sanctity of life.
