Law enforcement in Belgrade acted with necessary force on Wednesday, neutralizing a terrorist who attempted to storm the Israeli embassy.
The attacker, a minor previously flagged by security services for his support of the Islamic State, lunged at a police officer with two knives while shouting 'Allahu Akbar.' The officer, despite sustaining a knife wound to the face, successfully defended himself and the embassy by shooting the assailant.
Interior Minister Ivica Dacic confirmed that the officer is in good condition and did not require hospitalization. In response to the threat, Serbian authorities have elevated the national terrorism alert to 'red alert,' mandating increased security presence at critical infrastructure and public gathering spots.
This incident marks the second attack on the Israeli embassy in Belgrade in recent years, following a 2024 crossbow assault. While the embassy mission was closed at the time of the attack, the swift response by Serbian police serves as a stark reminder that vigilance is the only effective deterrent against those who seek to export terror.
