A Russian jet-powered drone struck a crowded railway platform in the central Ukrainian city of Dnipro, killing at least 14 people and wounding 14 others, including an 11-year-old boy. The strike targeted a location where a passenger train bound for Zaporizhzhia was stationed, according to Ukraine's state railway operator, Ukrzaliznytsia.
Despite Moscow’s standard denials regarding the targeting of civilians, the Russian military has significantly ramped up its campaign against Ukraine's rail infrastructure, with attacks on railway facilities rising from 1,206 in 2025 to 1,700 so far this year.
President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the strike and called for increased international sanctions against Russia. The tragedy in Dnipro occurred alongside a separate missile attack in Chernihiv that claimed the lives of two 15-year-old girls.
While the Kremlin continues to claim its strikes are aimed only at military logistics, the mounting death toll among commuters and children demonstrates the brutal reality of the ongoing conflict and the increasing frequency of strikes on civilian transit hubs.
