The Russian military has escalated its campaign against Ukraine, launching a massive, coordinated strike on energy infrastructure that marks the largest assault of its kind since the spring.
The Russian Ministry of Defence confirmed the strikes, specifically targeting the Trypilska thermal power plant near Kyiv, which they claim provides electricity to Ukrainian defense facilities. The impact of the strikes was felt across 11 regions, with Ukrainian officials reporting damage to residential buildings, railways, and civilian enterprises.
The human cost of the conflict continues to mount, with at least five people confirmed dead, including a child in the Kyiv region.
Ukraine’s largest private energy firm, DTEK, reported that power was restored to 8,000 homes in the capital, though the energy ministry has warned residents to limit the use of high-power electrical appliances as the grid struggles to maintain capacity. While the front lines remain largely stagnant, both sides continue to engage in high-stakes strikes.
The Russian military reported intercepting over 380 Ukrainian drones, while Ukrainian forces claimed to have hit a drone warehouse in the occupied Donetsk region.
As the conflict enters another difficult phase, the systematic targeting of the power grid remains a primary focus of Russian operations, leaving millions of Ukrainians to face the ongoing consequences of a war that shows no sign of abating.
