Putin Remains Defiant as War of Attrition Strains Russian Resolve

Despite growing economic pressure and battlefield losses, the Kremlin shows no signs of backing down in Ukraine.

Vladimir Putin’s regime remains firmly committed to its maximalist goals in Ukraine, continuing a campaign of missile and drone strikes despite the reality of a grinding war of attrition.

While the Kremlin continues to project strength, the conflict has entered its fifth year, bringing with it significant economic strain, technological decline, and battlefield losses.

The narrative of a quick operation has long since evaporated, replaced by a reality where Ukrainian drones now strike deep within Russian territory, targeting energy infrastructure and exposing vulnerabilities in Moscow's air defenses.

Even as some domestic voices within Russia begin to question the feasibility of the current path, the Kremlin’s response remains one of escalation rather than retreat. Any suggestion of a shift in policy is quickly silenced by state censors, reinforcing the regime's uncompromising stance.

Furthermore, the hope held by some Russian officials that a peace deal might be brokered on Moscow's terms has failed to materialize, leaving Putin to navigate a conflict that shows no signs of ending. As the St.

Petersburg International Economic Forum approaches, the world watches to see if the Kremlin will finally acknowledge the unsustainable nature of this war, though current actions suggest that Putin is doubling down on his original objectives.
