A violent incident at Lakanal middle school in Aubagne, France, resulted in two teachers being shot on Monday morning. The 14-year-old suspect entered the facility carrying a shotgun hidden inside a guitar case before opening fire on staff members.
The 53-year-old principal sustained injuries to his leg and lower back, while a 37-year-old teacher was struck in the thigh. Both are expected to survive. The perpetrator reportedly moved to the second floor, firing additional shots toward a classroom floor and a chalkboard before being tackled and restrained by a staff member in a hallway.
While no students were physically harmed, the school was placed under immediate lockdown. Marseille prosecutor Nicolas Bessone has launched an investigation for attempted murder. In a subsequent search of the suspect's family home, authorities discovered additional weapons, leading to the arrest of the boy's father.
Education Minister Édouard Geffray condemned the attack, describing it as further evidence of the rise of unchecked violence in society. The school will remain closed on Tuesday as the community grapples with the aftermath of this brazen act of aggression.
