Glen Hansard, the celebrated Irish musician, frontman of The Frames, and Academy Award-winning songwriter, has died following a single-vehicle motorbike crash in Dublin. Emergency services were alerted to the scene on Lower Road in Lucan shortly before 4:30 a.m. local time.
Police are currently investigating the incident and have issued an appeal for witnesses to come forward. Hansard, 56, rose to international prominence through his role in the 1991 film The Commitments and later achieved global success with the 2007 musical film Once. His song 'Falling Slowly' earned him an Oscar for Best Original Song in 2008.
Beyond his artistic career, Hansard was recognized for his charitable efforts, most notably founding an annual Christmas Eve busk in Dublin to support the Dublin Simon Community, an organization dedicated to assisting the homeless.
Tributes have poured in from across the entertainment industry and Irish political leadership, including Taoiseach Micheál Martin, who praised Hansard’s significant contributions to the nation’s cultural landscape. Hansard is survived by his partner and his three-year-old son.
