A tragic aviation accident occurred on Sunday when a Learjet 60 crashed into a multi-lane road in Palm Beach County, Florida, resulting in the deaths of all nine people on board.
The aircraft, which had departed from Austin, Texas, and was en route to the Bahamas, went down around 12:50 EST near Cresthaven, approximately nine miles from President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort. While the impact created a massive crater and scattered debris across the area, miraculously, no one on the ground was reported injured.
Air traffic control recordings reveal a desperate final sequence in the cockpit, with the crew reporting moderate turbulence, icing issues, and an uncontrollable descent rate that reached 20,000 feet per minute. The final transmission from the cockpit was a grim acknowledgment that the crew had run out of time.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy have addressed the incident, with the National Transportation Safety Board and the FAA launching a full investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
Local authorities have evacuated 600 residents from a nearby community as crews work to address significant damage to local infrastructure, including water lines. The road is expected to remain closed for at least 30 days while the site is cleared and the investigation proceeds.
