Ukraine brings the war to Moscow's doorstep with massive drone strike

The Kremlin's 'special military operation' is no longer a distant conflict as Ukrainian drones pummel oil infrastructure and residential areas in the heart of Russia.

The reality of war has finally arrived in Moscow. A massive Ukrainian drone strike targeted an oil refinery in the city's southeast on Thursday, sending plumes of black smoke over the skyline and serving as a stark reminder that the Kremlin's invasion of Ukraine has consequences.

While some locals attempted to maintain a facade of normalcy, the sheer scale of the assault—which damaged residential buildings and shopping centers—proved impossible to ignore. Tragically, the Moscow regional governor confirmed that an eight-year-old girl was killed in a fire sparked by the strikes.

Despite the escalating threat, Vladimir Putin and his state-controlled media machine have attempted to downplay the incident, focusing instead on a coordinated propaganda narrative that claims Russian strikes on Ukraine remain more 'effective' and 'powerful.' Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov dismissed concerns, instead pointing to the destruction Russian forces have inflicted on Ukrainian cities as justification for continuing the war of attrition.

However, the tactical reality is shifting. These long-range strikes on Russian oil facilities are beginning to bite, contributing to rising fuel prices and reports of rationing across the country.

As the front line creeps closer to the Russian capital, the Kremlin remains undeterred, signaling that it will continue its campaign regardless of the mounting pressure on its own soil.
