Mexican Government Forced to Abandon Plan to Cut School Year Short for World Cup

Bureaucrats retreat after parents revolt against prioritizing soccer over education.

Common sense has finally prevailed in Mexico as the government was forced to walk back a disastrous plan to terminate the school year on June 5th, more than a month ahead of schedule.

Education Minister Mario Delgado had originally pushed to end classes early, citing a combination of extreme heat and the upcoming World Cup, which Mexico is co-hosting with the United States and Canada.

The proposal sparked immediate outrage from the National Union of Parents, who rightly blasted the idea of prioritizing a sporting event over the fundamental education of the nation's youth.

Families were left scrambling to find childcare solutions for the sudden, massive gap in the school calendar, highlighting the disconnect between government planners and the realities of working parents.

President Claudia Sheinbaum attempted to frame the scheme as merely a 'proposal' before the education ministry officially quashed it following consultations with parents and think tanks.

While the government now promises that classes will proceed until the original July 15th end date, the administration faces significant pressure to prove it can manage the country.

President Sheinbaum is currently attempting to project stability and security for incoming fans, a tall order given the recent wave of cartel-led violence that terrorized the country following the death of drug kingpin Nemesio 'El Mencho' Oseguera.

As the government scrambles to finish infrastructure projects at the Azteca stadium and the capital's airport, the failed school calendar experiment serves as a stark reminder of the consequences when bureaucrats prioritize optics over the basic needs of their citizens.
