In a significant diplomatic development, First Lady Melania Trump has secured a ceasefire in the Russian-occupied city of Oleshky, a front-line settlement that has been devastated by the ongoing conflict.

The truce, which is set to begin on October 29, aims to address the dire conditions of the remaining population, which consists largely of elderly residents and children who have been forced to survive on garden weeds due to a lack of food, water, and medical supplies.

The White House confirmed that the First Lady and her representatives worked directly with both Russian and Ukrainian leadership to establish the terms of this localized humanitarian effort.

Under the agreement, civilian leaders from both nations will coordinate to assess the needs of residents, provide medical assistance, and offer transportation to those wishing to evacuate to either Russia or Ukraine.

Oleshky, which was seized by Russian forces in February 2022, has been trapped in a state of constant shelling and blockade, leaving its residents without electricity or safe infrastructure.

Both Ukrainian officials and the Kremlin have confirmed the agreement, with Russian spokesman Dmitry Peskov stating that military coordination for the ceasefire is underway.

This intervention marks a continued focus by the First Lady on humanitarian issues stemming from the war, following her previous efforts to facilitate the repatriation of children displaced by the conflict.
