The planned two-night concert series by Kanye West, known professionally as Ye, at the Gazprom Arena in St. Petersburg has been officially canceled. The project, which would have marked the largest performance by a Western artist in Russia since the 2022 invasion of Ukraine, was plagued by disorganization from the start.
Gazprom Arena officials confirmed as early as August that no rental agreement had ever been signed, contradicting the claims of the Moscow-based promoters, Say Agency. The venue further noted that it had received numerous complaints regarding the rapper's history of antisemitic and pro-Nazi rhetoric.
The planned shows drew sharp criticism from Russian officials, including Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, who condemned the rapper’s past glorification of Hitler.
Domestic opposition also mounted, with pro-war bloggers questioning the appropriateness of hosting an American artist while the United States provides military and financial aid to Ukraine. This cancellation adds to a growing list of failed international appearances for West, who has seen events scrapped in the UK, Poland, Italy, and France in recent years.
West has yet to issue a public statement regarding the collapse of his Russian tour.
