Central Command confirmed the strikes targeted groups directed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which have been responsible for over 30 aerial drone attacks against U.S. forces and Saudi energy infrastructure in just the last 72 hours.
These militias, operating under the umbrella of Iraq's Popular Mobilisation Forces, have long served as Tehran’s tools to destabilize the region and threaten American interests. The strikes follow an attempted missile attack by Iran against U.S. forces, which was successfully intercepted.
President Donald Trump, responding to the provocations, made it clear that the U.S. will continue to hit back hard against those who threaten our personnel. Saudi Arabia, exercising its fundamental right to self-defense, joined the effort after Iranian-backed drones targeted its facilities in the Eastern and Riyadh regions.
