Following demonstrations in Delhi where protesters demanded the resignation of the chief election commissioner, the Delhi Police have confirmed that allegations of sexual harassment made by three female journalists are being investigated.

The complaints, which involve claims of inappropriate conduct by officers during the detention of protesters, have been transferred to the police crime branch to ensure a fair inquiry. The protests, which have spanned several days in Delhi and Mumbai, center on the Election Commission's ongoing effort to update voter rolls.

The Commission maintains that the process is a necessary administrative update to remove 130 million duplicate, deceased, or ineligible entries from lists that had not been thoroughly revised in nearly 25 years.

Despite these stated goals, opposition groups and activists continue to allege that the revisions are politically motivated to favor the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party. These claims have been consistently rejected by both the Election Commission and the BJP.

As the situation unfolds, the Press Club of India has called for accountability, while the Election Commission continues to defend its internal decision-making processes, noting that internal disagreements are a standard part of their administrative operations.
